Faster Clothes Drying
« on: July 04, 2010, 12:27:15 PM »
We all know about cleaning the lint traps and vents, but this one was new to me and it works.  ;D Throwing a clean dry bath towel in the drier with your clothes will reduce drying time and cost. Heavy jeans may require 2 towels, but the towels will reduce drying time significantly. It can save a family of two $30 - $50 a year.

Good tip!

Heavy lint loads like towels or fleecy clothes dry a lot faster if you stop midway and clean out the lint filter.

Another good tip would be to move to a country where the sun actually shines and the air temperature is warm enough all year round to stick the clothes out on the line for them to dry naturally  :P

There is a downside to this though - the savings gained by drying clothes this way are sometimes negated by the need to wash them again after the local birdies play dive bomber practice on your clothes instead of the neighbors line

I love the smell of clothes dried on a clothesline!  Never had a problem with birds, but I did bring in a lot of spiders.

Many place have "unsightly premises" bylaws that ban clotheslines now. A friend of mine who lives only a few hours away isn't even allowed to hang a damp towel over her deck railing or pool fence.

We have an unsightly premises" by law going into effect shortly that will be banning dumpsters, outside garbage storage bins and compost bins. Garbage is picked up weekly, but... recyclables one week, organics the next, regular garbage the next and large or hazardous waste the next.  I'm all for nice looking properties, but at the cost of having to keep my garbage in my porch for a month... no.

I am so glad hubby and I got our new cloth line up this year.
Three old poles, a couple of bucks for cement, half a liter of Hammerite and two lines - some rocks for the concrete and a lot of work - that's it.
Saving? Well, now I feel the urgent need to wash everything I can find around the house :D
Right now I have two sleeping bags hanging outside... and another load of laundry in the machine.
Nothing can beat the smell and softness (provided you don't forget it outside in the sunshine) of clothes dried outside!

Nothing beats the smell of the clothesline dried bedding.   :D  We get the occasional bug coming in with our laundry, but more than worth it.

For those stuck with no option but a drier, the used drier sheets work great on a Swiffer for dusting floors and if they're scented they'll still have enough scent to make the chore more pleasant.

Three old poles

I promise, I wasn't one of the three. :P

Most of my friends already know that using the word "pole" around me is unsafe.

LOL - okay I have to admit that "joke" (if you can call it like this) had a rather long fuse with me right now - you could see the electrons traveling in my brain I suppose until it clicked half a minute later... hehe

But what do you do if all your bath towels are wet and dirty?
